Future of Video and 3D

When we went to High Definition four years ago there were very few Blu Ray players and a lot of you did not even have a High Definition TV.  Some had the new HD Laptops but it has taken four years before High Def is almost mainstream.  Even so, there are some countries that still do not broadcast in HD.  France our nearest neighbour is one as are a few others.

We now have 3D on the horizon.  They say that it will be with us for Christmas 2010 and that one broadcaster (SKY in the UK) has already started with FreeSat to follow.  Now before everyone gets excited about this please remember that the Blu Ray player has to be a different one.  You have to be able to receive 3D broadcasts so a new set-top receiver box is required.  To top it all, Samsung, Sony, Panasonic and LG are all touting their different system as the 'one'.  Well there can only be 'one' so lets all hang fire before we jump in and find we backed the wrong system.  3D Blu Ray players have just come on the market at the same price the original Blu Ray players were until 15 months later and  can be bought sub three figures! This is a niche market at present.

We love technology and once the dust has settled and we know which system is the one we will all use then we will jump in and convert.  Our money is on Sony as they have the Blu Ray system in place.

Once we do this our HD cameras will have to be doubled up on a special mounting.  We will also have to have special 3D authoring software (non available yet).  Bear all this in mind and we think that maybe 2011 at the earliest but in reality this may be 2012 before we are able to offer 3D action for our racing and will it be a WOW!  Cars leaping out of the screen at you and so on.  It will be quite something as those of you who have watched Avatar will agree with.  Anyway, the message is patience.  We will convert when all is ready.
